Wine can be known as a trendy alcoholic beverage that offers a lot of health benefits. We always like to spend most of the holidays with our friends or your loved ones with a glass of wine in hand. The wine will surely enhance the moment of like a beautiful and romantic evening with your loved ones. In addition, it has the potential for ruining your favorite evening by making you sick. You might have experienced or not that wine routinely causes certain symptoms when it comes to wine allergies. The symptoms can be mild and easily mistaken for seasonal allergies, a cold, or a hangover for all, but most of them are severe.

The potential of getting wine allergies is somewhat low!

Although it is rare to have wine allergies, it is possible to have an allergic reaction to wine. Allergies can be described as an abnormal immune response to an ingredient in wine. It may also cause sulfite sensitivity, an immune response for some people, especially asthma patients. Sulfite sensitivity is usually classified as this kind of allergy. And again, it may result in mild to severe symptoms.

Signs and symptoms of wine allergies

Symptoms caused due to wine allergies or other alcohol allergies might be similar to those of other food allergies. Some of the most noticed symptoms are like,

  • Having a burning or itching sensation on the lips, around the mouth area, or the inner throat
  • Nasal congestion or having a runny nose
  • It can cause rash or hives; they can be itchy too.

Condition like low blood pressure – hypotension

  • It can cause a digestive upset like nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting.
  • Breathing problems include wheezing or coughing can be occurred.
  • Feeling light-headed or passing out

Why should you seek immediate medical attention?

If you ever notice that you or someone having the symptoms mentioned above after having wine, then, of course, you should seek immediate medical attention and treatments. The most important thing is to notice what is between wine allergies and alcohol intolerance.

What are the allergens in wine?

Several allergens can be found in wine that can causeallergies.

Some of them are grapes. They include specific proteins, and they can cause allergies. Ethanol is also a particular type of alcohol that can be seen in wine.

Yeast can also be found in wine, and it plays a massive role in fermenting sugars from grapes into ethanol.

Sulfites are also added when making wine, and it can be produced naturally in wine or added by winemakers. The fining agents are also added during production. Fining agents include proteins derived from milk, fish, and eggs.

What type of wine matters?

Typically, most wines contain all of the potential allergens mentioned above, and they cause wine allergies. But mostly, it has been noticed that red wine causes most of the allergic symptoms.

White wine can be called the next most prevalent, with 31 percent saying it as a symptom trigger, and they cause wine allergies.
